BJ's Hope - "Rico"

B.J.'s Hope

"Rico"

Strong Hope/Antahkarana

2008 15.3 Bay Gelding

B.J.'s Hope was foaled on February 21, 2008 in Kentucky. He had 5 starts and was a winner. In the Fall of 2010 his racing career was over when he suffered an injury to his carpus. He ended up in bad hands, and spent this past winter in a muddy lot with no food and covered in a wet stable blanket. When a friend of Alana's rescued him from that situation he was so emaciated that he was very close to death. He was completely covered in rain rot and his shoes had grown into his feet. Another kind friend fostered him for a few months, feeding him up and treating his rain rot. This is a picture of him one month after being rescued. BJ's Hope came to us in January 2011 with the name Rico. He was just 2 years old.

When Rico first came to us he was still very thin, lost much of his coat, and was still battling his skin infection. The open sores on his back were painful and he could hardly tolerate being touched.
This is what Rico's skin and coat looked like when he came to us in January 2011

This picture was taken in early August 2011. This was his first ride since he had been off the track. By this time his attitude had completely changed and he was ready to get back into work. He was absolutely perfect for Alana's daughter Madelynn.

Three weeks under saddle at our barn.

It was a very emotional day for us all when we body clipped Rico for winter 2011 and saw his beautiful healthy coat for the first time.

Rico has really blossomed into a sweet little 4 year old. He likes people, is quiet and uncomplicated under saddle, and very safe and sane. He is currently giving lessons to beginning students and is being half leased by an intermediate junior rider.

Look at our little Rico now! He is an amazing young horse and we just love him.

Rico and Bia take home first place at Camelot Equestrian Park Horse Trials Junior Beginner Novice April 2012

January 18, 2013 - Rico finally gets his forever home with Bia! Words can't describe how happy we are for this pair!  We can't think of a more deserving person or horse.  Congratulations you two! We can't wait to see all that you will accomplish!

First ride after it became official!
