The biggest congratulations to our working student, Bia, on the purchase of Rico!  We have been amazed by what you two have accomplished in the past year and a half, and we are very touched by your strong bond.  We are so pleased that Rico finally has his very own person, and are thrilled that it is Bia. We cannot think of a more deserving person or horse. Congratulations again!

Today the SunFire crew attended the 2012 Neigh Savers Fundraiser at Golden Gate Fields.  Everyone had such a good time and we were so pleased to support such a fantastic non-profit.  We finished the day by getting a backstage tour of Jerry Weaver's barn at Golden Gate Fields.  Jerry was Ripley's former owner and trainer and we cannot thank him enough.  All of his horses were beautiful and very loved. We are so thankful for trainers like Jerry, who genuinely care about placing their horses in good homes after their time at the track.

Tina and her Thoroughbred stallion, Cloned Steel. She trained him through Grand Prix. He was the only tb stallion ever approved by both the Dutch and Trakehner associations for breeding.

Congratulations to Yvonne on her purchase of Ghetti (Storm Doctor)! We are so excited for both of you!

Ghetti is a 2008 17.3 bay OTTB rescue. He ran once at Santa Rosa in August 2011. He has the same grandsire (Storm Cat) as Ripley, Tony, and Haggin.  All of them share the same kind, laid back personality and fantastic work ethic. 

We are so glad that Ghetti has found his person. With some weight, muscle, and love he is going to be stunning!  We are very excited to see the transformation!

Last week we lost a very special friend.  On the evening of Thursday March 15 Polo passed away due to enterolith complications.  He was in his late twenties, and was very, very loved.

Many years ago Polo was used as a lesson horse at a local riding facility.  He didn't exactly enjoy his job and so his owner arranged a care lease situation for him.  His leasor boarded him at Fresh Start Stables, and while she initially involved in his care, she eventually stopped coming out to see him.  Feeling bad for Polo, Lisa quietly began spending time with him and taking care of his needs. Weeks turned to months, and realizing that Polo had been abandoned, Alana began trying to track down his owner.  Polo's owner was horrified to hear that he had been abandoned by his leasor and was very grateful that Lisa had taken care of him.  At this time Lisa officially adopted Polo, promising his previous owner that he would have a forever home with her.

Polo was Lisa's first horse.  He taught her so much, including how to jump!  And in turn Lisa taught Polo how to be an amazing police horse for the Sacramento PD.  Polo was Lisa'a mount for the Sacramento PD for five years, patiently and bravely patroling, and participating in memorials and parades.  Just one week before Polo passed he spent 12 hours at the capitol controlling Occupy riots. 

Polo was very much a fixture at our barn.  Everybody loved him.  Polo was the only horse at the barn that literally anyone could ride, that you could trust to walk himself back to his stall from turn-out, and take galloping bareback on the Ag roads and know for certain that you would return back to the barn in one piece.

He occupied an extra-large stall with extra fluffy bedding. He loved his routine and he loved to eat peaches. I can still see him napping peacefully in that big comfy stall with his funny little hennie friends, and I can still hear him screaming at me for his grain bucket when I would feed in the mornings.  

Rest in peace Polo.  Lisa loved you very much. We all loved you very much.
